Event: Celebrate 2012 Party at Marina Bay
a. What is the objective of this event? Give a brief background to this event.
The objective of the event was to unite Singaporeans and visitors alike to usher in and celebrate the New Year. It was started in 2005 and has since become an annual event.

b. Who is the target audience?
The target audience for the Countdown event would be teenagers and adults. However, the event itself was broadcast ‘live’, targeting people from every single age group and demographic in Singapore.
c. How is the event publicized? (In other words, how does the target audience get to know about the event?)
The event was advertised on television and radio in the weeks leading up to the event. Also, since the event’s beginnings in 2005, it has since become somewhat of a tradition for Singaporeans in addition to being an annual event, and as such does not require publicity for the public to know about it.
d. Is the event reported in the media? If yes, how widely is it reported? (Do a quick analysis of the reports, in terms of the angles that the media take, the importance of the coverage, and your opinion of the impact of the coverage). If no, why do you think the media did not cover the event? What do you think could be done to attract media coverage?
Yes. The event was covered in the newspapers and on radio, as well as being broadcasted ‘live’ on television. The event was portrayed as a way for all Singaporeans to ‘get together and celebrate the New Year’ by the media, which seemed to be for the purpose of keeping the audience excited about the event rather than attract more people to it. In my opinion, the event could possibly have done without the large amount of coverage it had, for example, by only having radio ads, and still have a high turnover.
e. Assume you are the manager overseeing this project. Evaluate the success/failure of this event. How would you do it differently for greater success?
The event would certainly have been very successful, judging by the large number of people that attended the event (a larger crowd than the one present at the National Day Parade), and this would translate into large revenue due to ticket sales. The event also accomplished its objective of uniting Singaporeans together to celebrate the New Year as it went smoothly without any major hiccups or bumps during the performances.
For greater success, I would hold the event at two separate venues simultaneously, to increase the reach of the event to the public. One of the venues would be in the city area, and another would be in the heartlands. I would also invite a popular Japanese band to perform at the event, which would increase the event’s appeal as only Korean and English bands were invited this year.
